I have had one of these for over two years, and I find it to be an excellent, basic device for collecting scraps before taking them to my composter, which is many yards away in my back yard. It holds a lot in case the weather is inclement or if the composter is under a few feet of snow and I have to wait. The drawback is, of course, the obvious: there's a smell, but only for the few moments it's open. It contains said odor very well though it lacks the fancy carbon filter and liner of the many, more expensive and heavier devices. I recommend it highly because it does keep odor inside, it was inexpensive to buy, and it's tough. The handle and lid are lasting well, with no cracking or leaks. If you have a boatload of cash to spend on a scrap container that will look pretty on your counter, this is probably not what you're looking for. But I'm really glad to have it. It's a valuable under the sink device. It is an inexpensive, no frills, no filters, large plastic container and will hold several days of stuff! No odor problems, except when lid opened. Lid just rests on top; does not snap and screw on. No more frequent trips to the compost bin! I store it under the sink and easily add compost as I go. So far so good..... The size is perfect for me, I do not like having to dump every other day. I don't need a filter, I feel like that is a rip-off - keep the lid on. My only complaint is that each one last about 2 years and then it will crack, but I've searched and searched for other products and always come back to this one.
