5.0 out of 5 stars not 100% perfect, but nearly so!, November 5, 2006

Nov '06--My cat is a 13 pounder, poops about 5 times a day--and boy does it stink! I feel that cleaning a cat box several times a day is a real pain, but then so is cleaning it up off the basement rug every day if I dont clean the box soon enough for "his highness"! This thing is GREAT! Ok, I've only had it for 5 days now, and it specifically says on the box that for larger cats or multiple cats, the cartrige will NOT last 30 days--the container is full (like I said, he poops A LOT) BUT!! I really dont mind taking the scoop and scooping out the container once a week--I have to do this because replacement cartriges are or so (that's the really bad part) I still have to see if it will take all his urine for 30 days, but in the mean time: The smell is gone, he doesnt track litter everywhere (I used clumping before and he left a real mess--along with the smell) just a few of the crystals get on the floor, I dont have to clean the box daily (as well as the basement carpet), and it works. One thing to note, I did not realize how BIG the thing is, and I also didnt think about plugging it in--so you may have to revise where you put it. Also, it's not perfect--some of the poop got behind the rake, and got stuck, but whoopie, no big deal to take a piece of toilet paper, and pull it off. I may look into reusing cartriges (waxed cardboard boxes with scoop free crystals dumped into it) and adding crystals from a bottle, but that may not be possible, because waxed cardboard can only take so much wetness--but that may be an option. I think a bottle of the stuff is around too, but you may get 2 or 3 uses out of it, rather than just the one.

**update**1 1/2 months--I still love it. It lasts about 14 days, with a once per week clean out of the poop trap. The crystals never smells like urine, but there is a smell after that amount of time (big cat). cant use a litter liner as the rake can get stuck--or kitty's nails, so I'm still working on a way to refill more cheaply--but no more "accidents" on the carpet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, a self-cleaning litter box that works, July 22, 2006

We had mechanical problems with both self-cleaning boxes we had tried. They apparently just couldn't handle three cats.

So far, the SccopFree box is working perfectly, with very little odor, for the same three cats.

It's well and simply engineered, and although it has a higher ongoing cost than others, it's worth that higher cost for us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, effective, and far more quiet than the Petmate Purrforma, June 1, 2006

I bought this as a replacement of my first automated litterbox, the Petmate Purrformat Plus XL. That one was awful, this one is great.

The rake on this litterbox actually switches the direction it points as it moves to the front and back to the rear of the box. The net effect is that, unlike the Petmate, you don't get a wall of litter at the rear of the box. The litter is evenly distributed along the bottom every time and the rake is able to return to its starting point every time unlike the Petmate.

As it sweeps forward, the purple part rises up and the rake pushes anything it has caught underneath it. Underneath the purple part is more Fresh Step litter, so when it closes down it traps the odor so the Fresh Step can absorb it. Simple!

Furthermore, this one is much more quiet than the Petmate. The Petmate sounded like a remote controlled tank but this one just has a gentle hum to it, and it completes the task of sweeping in about 1/2 to 1/3 the time the Petmate takes, too.

My 2 1/2 month old kitten took to it like a duck to water. She kind of thinks it's a toy right now but she also knows what it's there for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Buy, February 8, 2010

This review is from: Ozeri Ultra Thin Professional Digital Kitchen Food Scale, in Elegant Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
I know my wife was looking for a kitchen scale so I decided to surprise her with this one, cuz from what she tells me, "little stuff" like this makes her happy. On the day it was suppose to arrive, I walked up to my door after a long days work, wondering how happy and surprised she would be, and hoping she would be nice to me like BEFORE we got married. I casually walked in with a smile on my face only to be welcomed home by my lovely wife and what I can only describe as a noise concoction of a chainsaw, jackhammer, and a wailing cat in heat all in one(anyone ever hear a cat in heat before?). Here's the highlight of that civil conversation:

" OMG WHY DID YOU BUY THIS, I JUST BOUGHT ONE TODAY! "
" Oh, I didn't know. Thought you'd like this one..."
" OMG I SPENT ALL THIS TIME RESEARCHING, AND I BOUGHT THE ONE I DID FOR A REASON !"
" Oh, well I researched it too. Lets check it out..."

I figured I didn't want to completely forfeit any dignity I had left so I chose to defy the odds and defend the scale I purchased against my wife . We kept it civilized as we both calmly opened up our respective scales and set them down next to each other on our dining room table to juxtapose and compare. Right off the bat, we both agreed mine looked better--mine was contemporary, sleek, thin, and sexy. The specs were nearly identical but the wifey's was some gargantuan amalgamation of cheap plastic and glass that she picked up at Bed Bath & Beyond. And not to mention that she paid almost double what I paid for my scale even with shipping. I thought it was a homerun , but she decides to pull a "looks aren't everything" card on me. So I reach in my pocket and pull out some change that I had. From what I know, Nickels are exactly 5 grams so I put one on both scales. So far so good as they both read 5 grams. I then put 3 Nickels on her scale but the scale read 16 grams. Sensing victory is near, I quickly put 3 on my scale. With a big smile on my face, I read out 15 grams. Not wanting sleep on the couch that night I quickly refrained from any victory dancing and humbly and respectfully asked her to return her scale, which she made me do...

In a head-to-head faceoff with another scale, The Ozeri Ultra Slim scale was the victor, and so far, its been perfect. As a scale, it is accurate, consistent, and easy to use and clean. I feel like this review has rambled on a little too long, but overall, its a great scale that works and looks fantastic!

1.0 out of 5 stars Liked it at first, but I now think it's too flaky, April 26, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Ozeri Ultra Thin Professional Digital Kitchen Food Scale, in Elegant Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
Update: I now feel that this scale is too flaky for me to use for baking. It's auto-off'd in the middle of my adding ingredients one too many times, and today I tare'd it after adding something, walked to the sink to get water, returned a few seconds later, and it read "-178g" rather than 0. I re-tare'd it, but really this behavior just isn't ok. I'm going to replace it with a model that has an ac-adapter available, perhaps a My Weigh KD-7000, or an Escali 136DK, so that it doesn't auto-off in the middle of things. (I'm not wandering off and leaving it alone when it switches off like this - I'm actively adding ingredients, if perhaps not quickly enough for its liking if I'm trying to accurately measure e.g. 20 more grams of water.)

[original review follows]

I bought this scale to use for measuring ingredients for making bread. It's working really well for that - seems accurate (based on my measuring other things in my kitchen that I knew the weight of), and has plenty of room for me to be able to have a large mixing bowl on it and still be able to see the display. Here are things that I think could be a bit better:

(1) the auto-off after inactivity time is set a little too short for me - if I've added some ingredients and wander off to get more, it sometimes turns off before I get back, which is annoying if I'm not sure how much of an ingredient I've got in there - I need to be vigilant about making sure I know before I wander off. I can always weigh it again, but if I've tared it and not remembered how much I've tared, I could be losing information.

(2) I wish it registered new weights a little bit more quickly as I'm adding them (e.g. when I'm adding flour or water a little at a time to get up to a certain weight, I sometimes go over because it's a bit behind the amount I'm adding - I need to add ingredients pretty slowly to compensate. I don't know if this rate is standard for kitchen scales of this type, or if it reflects some sort of engineering compromise needed to keep the scale so thin.

(3) My old scale only had 2 units, grams and ounces, to cycle between. This scale has the same two, but duplicates them with "volume" measurements (cubic ounces, and mls). But it doesn't measure volume, just weight, so these measurements duplicate grams and ounces, and mean you have to press more times to cycle between the two, instead of just toggling between 2. Minor annoyance.

Nonetheless, this scale is more precise than my last one, and much smaller, with the consequence that I store it more conveniently located and use it more - overall I'm happy with this purchase and would recommend it to others. I also like the fact that it displays the battery status.

2.0 out of 5 stars poor quality, November 17, 2010

This review is from: Ozeri Ultra Thin Professional Digital Kitchen Food Scale, in Elegant Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
This scale is not particularly accurate or reliable. Weigh the same object more than once, you will not get the same measurement. Leave the object on the scale for a few seconds, the weight will change. If you want the accuracy of your measurements to approach 1 gram (or even within 5 grams), do not choose this scale.
