I opted for this model since it did not rely on batteries to open/close the lid, was a large size, and was beautiful stainless steel. I couldn't be more pleased. We've had the can for a few weeks now, and aside from a few minor scratches on the lid and foot pedal, it's holding up like a tank.When it's time to empty the can, you simply lift up the inner plastic can and rest it on the lip in the bottom of the can. You can now easily pull out the old bag and insert the new one. There is even a lid lock to keep the lid up while you change the bag. Here are the overall dimensions of this trash can: Height: 25.5 inches Height (lid open): 35.5 inches (slightly less actually) Depth(not including foot pedal): 10 inches Depth(including foot pedal): 12.25 inches (roughly) Width: 18.5 inches (see my photo on this product page to get a rough idea of its size in an actual kitchen) I highly recommend this Simplehuman trash can, especially if you have stainless steel appliances in your kitchen. I purchased this at Amazon for roughly one hundred sixty bucks (it's slightly more at the time of this review). This is exactly what it's called on Amazon. It arrived today and I was glad to see it didn't have any dents. However, the box clearly says its a 50 liter trash can, not 55 liter as described. In the mean time I ordered 200 55 liter trash bags directly from simplehuman. So, I now have a 50 liter trash can and 200 trash bags for a 55 liter trash can. I'm tired of going to UPS with large boxes full of return items from simplehuman. I really want a 55 liter simplehuman trash can without dents and is 55 liters, not 50 liters. I strongly prefer the "steel bar rectangular step can," but have little faith that it will arrive without dents. I don't know what to do at this point. Ugh. |

Although the garbage looks pretty good (it's plastic with a faux nickel finish) and looked good in my kitchen, it didn't function particularly well. Because it's so light-weight, it moved around every time i pressed on the foot pedal and it would never stay in the same place. You also can't place it too close to a wall because when the top opens, it pushed against the wall, making it move even more and ended up leaving black scuff marks on my wall. The surface doesn't capture fingerprints like many metal cans. We're tough on a lot of our things and these I think will hold up better than metal cans that can dent / scratch. We use one for trash and the other for recyclables.They are in front of a wall so we don't have as much movement problem as some others have had. But a few strip of rubber tape on the bottom do help keep them in place. Could add some weight (brick?) in the bottom. I'm happy they were so light that shipping costs were reasonable. |
