No funky odors, very attractive wood, and nicely finished corners (rounded and smooth). Actually a bit better than I expected at this price. I got the 6x15 size to hold some larger utensils and it works very well. I would definitely consider buying some of the other sizes now that I have seen the quality. I'm using mine in a drawer, but it's nice enough that you could use on a desk or table as well. These organizers are a half-step above balsa wood. Held together by brittle glue. Best used decoratively, anybody who really uses their kitchen drawers will destroy them. Arrived very poorly packed in a large box w/a few small airbags and wads of tissue paper, so one organizer was destroyed - broke apart and one side caved in. SO not what I wanted, and way overpriced for what it is. Still may return all of them.
